Hey everyone, first time posting, be gentle. I’ve started working with a company that has a device that lets me track my tasks throughout my 12 hour shifts. It downloads all online and we have been creating a quality improvement project for my role as a Rapid Response Nurse, efficacy of our response time and ect. I really think this task collection and informatics would be huge, showing what nurses really do through their day. I don’t mean chart, assess, I mean what we really do the time it takes and ect. Anyone interested? Can anyone point me in a direction of people that might be interested.

Semester two, round two, has officially come to an end! Oh and guess what, I'm still a nursing student!!! I passed and I am moving on to semester three in my program. Thank fully my new job helped me with financials (removing some of that extra stress I had last semester). This semester was all over the place, I mean really it was crazy. Our instructor, I had the same one last semester, was being investigated because of the amount of failures and complaints that she had from the last semester and the first two tests that were administered. Clinical was always a "guess and see" show because the floor we had was not always receptive to student nurses on the ...

Hi Everyone!! So we are mid way thru the second semester re-do! Here is a little update for you: a-Health restoration 2. The exam for Fluid and Electrolytes I got a 90 vs the 70 I got last time. Diabetes I got a 75 versus the 82.5 I got last time. Cardio exam is to come on the 30th of this month and I feel pretty confident so far. My professor has changed exam styles so it has been a little different. I still feel pretty positive about this semester re-do. b- Clinical has been interesting. Some of the nurses on the floor that I am on are not really receptive to the students, but the ones who are have helped me do some really cool things so far! (peritoneal ...

Oh Philosophy

I am about to take a mid term in my philosophy class. I am just curious why this is a requirement in Nursing school? I agree with out Medical Ethics class, but philosophy feels unnecessary and like torture. It is honestly worse for me than the nursing lectures. Has any one else felt this way? I just feel like i think so evidence based compared to what this class requires. Help me!

Nursing Journey

Okay, so I am not a blogger by any means- but I am going to try to keep up on this so that I have something to reflect on my nursing journey. Currently I am repeating my second semester Health Restoration course, so I think I am hoping this will help me keep my goal in mind for the long hall. I sit here today and reflect on the past eighteen and a half months. It has inspired me to share my nursing education journey. Rewind: *Semester One* So I passed my first semester of nursing school. Let me repeat that, I passed my first semester of nursing school. I am not going to lie, this semester has been hell. Not only this semester, but all of 2016, was just ...

New Year's Revolutions

“The very first requirement in a hospital is that it should do the sick no harm.” ― Florence Nightingale , Notes on Nursing: What It Is, and What It Is Not A controversial BMJ article published in May 2016 implicated medical error as the third leading cause of death in the United States. Three common medical errors-- inadequate patient communication, human error and hospital acquired infections(HAC)- can be eliminated through improved care patterns. You can make a difference. Resolve to revolutionize the healthcare you provide in 2017: Patients are #1. Care with patients, rather than for patients. The patient is the most important ...

Esther McCready, a native of Baltimore MD, had wanted to be a nurse since she was a child. In high school, she worked as a nurse’s aid, and applied to the University of Maryland School of Nursing in 1946. Her application was denied because she was a “negro”. Per the ruling McCready vs Byrd , she “met the university’s admission academic performance qualifications, but the University of Maryland did not accept ‘negro” students. Instead, the University of Maryland offered Ms. McCready a full scholarship—to attend an all-black nursing school in Tennessee. This 1896 Plessy-Ferguson “separate but equal” approach wasn’t acceptable to Ms. McCready. She wanted ...
